Meiners Oaks Park Mural

The mural at Meiners Oaks Park will take viewers on a journey through the many ecosystems of the Ojai Valley and surrounding mountains. Along the length of the 500-foot wall, we will highlight plant communities including grassland, sage scrub, chaparral, oak woodland, riparian, and mountain habitats, featuring a diverse array of native plants and animals.

This will be an ambitious mural with layered foliage, native wildlife, and countless details to discover over time.

Once complete, Meiners Oaks Park will be a 2-acre, nature-focused park with:

  • Native gardens and meadows

  • Play, picnic and climbing features

  • A safe, accessible place to enjoy our community

  • A place to connect with our plant, animal and human neighbors

  • A place to explore, play, imagine and create

The mural will transform the low concrete block wall along the west boundary of the park, helping to define the park as a fun and welcoming community space.

The 500-ft long mural is designed in sections, highlighting native flora and fauna of the Ojai Valley.

Process & Timeline

August - December 2026: Artists will build out the full 500-foot mural design

January/February 2027: Artists will meet with teachers to determine schedule and student participation

Spring 2027: Artists will map out the mural on the wall, lead community painting days with participating students, and add finishing touches to complete the artwork

Community Painting

Through a collaborative mural painting process, we will invite students from across the Ojai Valley to bring the mural design to life by painting native plants and animals.

Along the way, students will learn painting techniques, deepen their understanding of local ecology, experience the value of working together with their hands, and participate in shaping a meaningful public space that reflects the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
