Painting a mural together creates a sense of delight, focus, and offers a shared vision.
MuralKits are mural projects designed and led by us that bring all kinds of people together to create nature-focused artwork for their own communities.
MuralKit projects are an extension of our nature-centered public art practice. As public artists exploring the ecological stories of the places around us, we’ve become deeply aware of the many species we share our communities with. Through art-making, we invite others to see and feel these ecological relationships as well.
PROCESS
We begin by creating a custom design and building out a color pallet for the space.
Then, we map out the artwork on the wall.
Next, we lead a community painting day where participants fill the wall with color.
As a final step we touch up the mural and add finishing touches so the artwork looks professional and complete.

At each site we guide participants to create beautiful murals for their own community to enjoy.
CONNECTION
Working as a group to collectively create artwork is an experience that brings people together. The process is both joyful and calm, and well suited to people of all ages and artistic abilities. We set up the wall and the paints to make the painting accessible to everyone who wants to participate.
MuralKit projects are a great fit for kids, multigenerational groups, and adults. Whether it’s a team building project or a festive community event, MuralKits are a unique way of bringing people together to create an enduring work of art.
We painted blackened branches across the wall to represent a burned landscape. Together with the Kidspace community, we then brought the mural to life with native plant species that thrive in the aftermath of wildfire.
With every project, we consider the unique character of the site and look for stories within the surrounding landscape that can be translated as the artwork. Our hope is to create a deeper connection between the painters and the natural world surrounding them.
ECOLOGICAL EDUCATION
Most of our MuralKit projects tell ecological stories rooted in the places where they are created.
Our most recent mural, created for Kidspace Children's Museum, features fire-following species. After the Eaton Fire forever changed this area, we wanted to honor that history while also celebrating the resilience of the land.
