SEED SPIRES
Seed Spires are living sculptures made of compressed earth, sown with native plant seeds. Over time, the geometric forms sprout, grow, erode, and bloom to nourish our dwindling pollinators.
Seed Spires are ephemeral, impermanent, ever-changing, and responsive to nature’s cycles.
They come out of the form packed smooth with clean lines. Quickly, the surface starts to soften as sprouts burst out of the soil.
Over the course of several months the spires grow, turning each spire into a one-of-a-kind living sculpture.
The spires are designed to spark curiosity, bring soil and native plants right up to eye level, and feed pollinators.
As the seasons shift the spire plants redirect their energy from growth and blooms to setting seeds.
This stage highlights the graceful forms of the dry plant matter and invites seed-eating birds.
Eventually the spires will erode and become sculpture ruins, integrating with the landscape. Seeds may continue to grow and bloom, in an organic planting for years to come.
